Leave Jerusalem heading west through the Judean Hills. After a long climb up to Bar Giora, you can stop for a cup of coffee with the local cycling scene, continue downhill to the Ella Valley parallel to the ancient Roman road. Continue to the ruins of Beit Guvrin with its impressive roman Theater and multiple caves within the National Park. From here head south past the biblical city of Lachish, past the vineyards of that mark the edge of the Judean plains. Cycling Distance: 60 Km, Moderate/Challenging. Transfer to Arad, overlooking the Dead Sea. Cycle downhill towards the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, a wonder of the natural world. From Dead Sea continue towards Masada.Take the cable car into the fortress village. At the top, we will see the remains of the last village to fight the Roman Empire, and one of Israel’s most important landmarks. Enter the Negev desert heading south through small desert towns and communities. You will pass by Mamshit National Park where you can visit the Nabatian City that once stood here when camel caravans followed the spice route to the Gaza Port. Continue to the Hatira Creator and see the colorful sands and spectacular rock formations. End the day and follow the small road that will take you to the small town where you will spend the night. Highlights: Kibbutz Sde Boker, Ben Gurion memorial, Avdat You are now in the Negev highlands yet you will still be climbing until you reach Mitzpe Ramon. The road will take you by small desert farms growing vine grapes and sheep in this dry desert climate. You will reach Kibbutz Sde Boker, where Israel’s first prime minster- David Ben Gurion spent his final years. You can also visit the Ben Gurion memorial, in the college named after him, over looking the Tzin Valley. From here continue past yet another Nabatian Town (Avdat) and arrive at the end of the day to Mitzpe Ramon. This small town sits on the cliff of the Ramon Creator, one of the prettiest views in Israel. Cycling Distance: 60 Km, Moderate/Challenging. Overnight: Mitzpe Ramon, Casual. Deep Desert to Eilat Negev is the most desolate area in Israel If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of some wildlife as you bike by. End you tour at Israels Resort town EilatDay 5: Mitzpe Ramon to Neot Smadar Highlights: Ramon Creator, Neot Smadar Café , Kibbutz tour
Enjoy a day of open desert; the southern, After a decent into the creator the ride will take you across dry river beds where shade is hard to find. You will reach the Neot Smadar Café, an oasis of good food and a cold drink towards the end of the day. From here a short ride will take you to the Kibbutz Near by where you can enjoy a short tour of the interesting community projects that are found here before turning in for the night. Cycling Distance: 90 Km, Moderate. Overnight: Neot Smadar, Casual. Day 6: EilatHighlights: Eilat Mountains Red Sea., Yigal Alon Center, "Kursi" National Park, Yardenit Baptismal Site
You will head south along the Egyptian border out of the Negev and into the Eilat Mountains. The colors will change from yellow to dark red and black rock as you pass into the last part of the ride. After climbing up Mt Yoash you will start a long decent towards the shores of the Red Sea. With views of the mountains surrounding the bay you will reach the resort town and enjoy a swim in the year round cold water to celebrate the end of your journey. Cycling Distance: 90 Km, Moderate.
