Planning a self-guided bike trip to Israel? Let us help
A self guided ride in Israel is a great way to see the country, if you are confident in traveling on your own. Please take a look at the program on this site and download the tracks.
The time of year:
The northern route is challenging and has very good weather in the spring and fall. The southern route has less elevation gain and is good cycling weather in the winter.
How much time should I devote?
You could see the whole country within two weeks and include an extension to Petra for another 5 to 8 days. You will find our two recommendations for the north and the south. Changes can be made but the minimum we recommend is three days of touring. We can make adjustments to the recommended route, to suit your riding level, the requested accommodation and the number of riding days you are interested in

Luggage Transfer:
We recommend packing very light and traveling with nothing beyond what you can carry on your bike. We are happy to provide you contact numbers of local drivers for transfers, but keep in mind that this will be at normal taxi fairs. You are welcome to leave anything with us during your ride, free of charge.
Public transport & bikes:
In Israel you can travel both by train and bus with your bikes.
Train: outside of rush-hour 6 to 9 AM and 3 to 7 PM you can board the train with your bike at any station. If you enter the station outside of peak hours you can travel with your bike on the train even if it is peak hours. Follow the wheelchair access signing to the platform and then board the train on car is clearly marked that they have space for bikes. If trains are very crowded be patient and forgiving... Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons in general are the busiest times on all public transportation in Israel. Train schedule.
Bus: City buses with luggage compartments are required to take bicycles free of charge, and depending if there is space. It is somewhat of a cumbersome maneuver which involves lifting your bike in sliding it on the side into the luggage compartment, however it's a fairly cheap and convenient way to skip sections with your bike, or transfer to another city. Bus arrival times are fairly accurate on any public transportation app including google maps. see Moovit app.
